The two maxims that I follow in my research and writing on the economic history of India
Trust sources .. and nothing else
History is telling a new story credibly. Credible is that story which trusts its sources .. unless contradicted by other sources. Never take another historian's opinion on which sources to trust, unless there are sources to back up that opinion.
Free history .. from politicsEconomic history of India as a field emerged as a tool in the service of economic nationalism. That original link is still strong. I see my work as a critique of that brand of economic history that comes pre-loaded with patriotic sentiment. Doing the history of India is an enterprise to free the past from political narratives.
